The State of New Zealand's Environment

In 2007 the Ministry of the Environment stated there is a danger to our economic future because of our current poor environmental performance. A 2004 survey found that 87% of us consider the environment important or very important to them. In the same survey, New Zealanders rate the quality of the natural environment as being the third most important aspect of NZ.

"Why is it then in 2001 that New Zealand is rated behind countries such as Israel, Greece, Austria, Germany, Turkey, Australia, China, Japan and many more in the use of renewable energy technology?"

If we care so much about our environment why is nothing being done?

Non renewable forms of energy impact heavily on the environment, including air, land and waterways. The sustainable use of renewable energy resources can limit the amount of impact energy generation has on the environment, providing a better way to generate the energy needs of today and the future.

Solar and wind energy generation are the fastest growing energy technologies in the world. Their inherent attractiveness is not only due to sustainability, but also because the energy is generated at the point of demand. Traditional forms of generation often sees electricity travelling large distances before reaching the customer , where during transmission, considerable amounts of energy is lost asking the question: Is there a better way?
